Bohemian heritiage of the Diagonal community will be celebrated in Diagonal with an event Sunday afternoon. Phil DUKES of
Bedford, who recently returned from a trip to Poland and Czechoslovakia, will be presenting a slide show of his trip.
Carmen LAMPE, pastor of the Mount Ayr First Baptist Church, retunred Feb. 4 from a trip to Kenya and Tanzania, a "dream
come true." A memorable part of the trip was visitng three different game parks.
Tyson DUKES, a Mount Ayr Community junior, placed third in the 112 pound class of the Class 1A wrestling tournament in
Des Moines over the weekend. DUKES had six matches before earning the medal.
Barton and Bernice ABARR will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Wednesday, March 16. The ABARRS were married in
Redding in 1944.
There were 25 youth and adults who took part in the Feb. 19 downhill skiing trip to Montezuma, arranged by representatives
from the Ringgold Optimist Club and Ringgold County 4-H. Coordinating the event were Merle WALTER, Darwin CAMPBELL and
Kurt HALL and others enjoying the trip were: Patti WALTER, Allison WALTER, Neil HARTMAN, Shannon HARTMAN, Travis HARTMAN,
Amy WALKUP, Dee STARK, Steven HUBBARD, Tara RICHARDSON, Julie ROUDYBUSH, Aleha SHIELDS, Louise BLOCH-JENSEN, Luiz Robert
SANCHES BRITES, Jeremy PRITCHETT, Jolene GOURLEY, Justin GOURLEY, Katie TAYLOR, Janice MOBLEY, Melonie MOBLEY, Scott
COULSON, Christ WHITTINGTON and J.P. WHITTINGON.
Four MACHS speech students will be participating in the state individual speech contest March 19. Receving division I
ratings at the district contest to qualify were Amy DERSCHEID, poetry reading; Stephanie BAINUM, literary program;
Elisa JONES, prose interpretation; and Jason MERCER, dramatic acting and storytelling.
Eight Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes were named letter winners following the 1993-94 basketball season, the girls;
first five-on-five season. They included seniors Jody DENNEY, Tracy HENRY, Brandi LININGER, Teena SHIELDS and Jamie TAYLOR,
and juniors, Lory CROSS and Megan LONGFELLOW. Statisticaian Rebecca NEAS also received a letter.
Bowlers taking top places at seven district bowling tournaments sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau will now advance to
the state tournament March 4-25 in Des Moines. First place winners from Ringgold county in district 9 competition were:
team captained by Sandra BASTOW and members Lori MERCER, Vicki SICKELS, Donna STEPHENS and Teena PETERSOHN; Men's singles
Fred WILSON; and women's all-events Donna STEPHENS.
