Four 4-H girls represented Ringgold county in the girls 4-H home furnishings juding contest held recently during the
Saint Joseph Interstate Livestock Show. They were Theanna BLACK, who was high scorer with 285 points out of a possible
400; Barbara STEPHENS in second place with 285 points; Shirley GOINS with 275 points and Kay WATSON, who scored
270 points. Mrs. George VICKER of Diagonal, leader of the Jolly Jinglers 4-H Club, accompanied the girls as a
chaperon. Karen REASONER and Nancy WEEDA, winning junior demonstration team from Tingley Topperettes, also attended
the show.
Mrs. Walter HUDSON were happy to hear the voice of their son, Loyd, who called Monday night by telephone from his
home in Wilmington, NC to report that he and his family are safe after the hurrican Helen had struck the east
coast. The heaviest damage was inflicted Saturday when winds reached a velocity of 135 miles an hour. The HUDSON'S only
loss was damage to the roof of the house, a fence and trees.
The proposal to issue general obligation bonds to finance the construction of a water system in Kellerton
failed by six votes to receive the required 60 percent of the total vote cast at the special election held Saturday.
The official count was 111 "yes" votes and 84 "no" votes. This is the second time the proposition has failed to receive
the required number of favorable votes.
Two Tingley residence properites were recently sold through the E. M. BRECKENRIDGE Agency. The Levi WILLIAMS
property, west of the Christian church, was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd WALTERS, who reside on a farm northeast of
Tingley. The Ed SHERWOOD property, one block north of the United Presbyterian church, was sold to Ronald TULL.
The 1931, 1938, 1944, 1946 and 1949 Raider football squads, all undefeated, will be honored at the annual
Mount Ayr Raider homecoming game with the Osceola Indians October 10.
The United Fund organization for Mount Ayr ws established with the election of officers and directors at a meeting
held Tuesday evening in the assembly room of the courthouse. County auditor Roy LEPLY was elected president of the
organization. Other officers elected were George JACKSON, vice-president; W. T. TIMBY, secretary and W. B. CUNNING,
treasurer.
