Going camping with friends and playing soccer in
Des Moines have been some of the more memorable experiences for exchange student Danny DUARTE of Bogota, Colombia during
his year in Iowa. DUARTE has been a student at Mount Ayr Community high school this year. His host family is Rick and
Marilyn HAWKINS and sons Forrest and Lyndon of rural Mount Ayr.
The Arion award, presented to the outstanding senior member
of the Mount Ayr Community high school band program, was presented to Landi McFARLAND of Ellston at the annual spring
concert. She is the daughter of David and Joy McFARLAND.
A new event was held at Mount Ayr Community high school Saturday
night -- a seniors' prom, designated to give area senior citizens a night out. The Mount Ayr FFA chapter, in cooperation
with the FCCLA chapter, presented the event at no charge to those attending. Members of the FFA chapter decorated the
commons Saturday afternoon, using decorations from the high school prom.
Friday the Raiders set a new school record for a
round of golf with a 152 in defeating Diagonal and East Union.
A total of 11 letter winners are part of the Mount Ayr
Community Raiderette girls track team this year. Letter winners include Heidi WINKLER, Beth GOURLEY, Stephanie NOBLE,
Kristen WILKEY, Kinda FISHER, Amber SCHUSTER, Allison SNOOK, Melanie JACKSON, Mary SCHARFENKAMP, Courtney CANNON and
April PERRIGO.
There are two seniors taking part in boys track for the
Mount Ayr Community Raider team this year. Seniors
include Scott HENSLEY and Colby BAKER.
