Hikers in the annual Ringgold county CROP Walk began their hike from Fife's Grove Park with a long climb up hill Sunday
afternoon. Over 100 people from Ringgold county communities hiked to raise money to fight hunger around the world.
Participants hiked up to six miles in the event Sunday afternoon, raising money for pledges for their effort. One-fourth
of the money stays in Ringgold county to help with the local food banks.
These ten seniors are the candidates for homecoming queen and homecoming king honors at the school [Mount Ayr Community
High School] this year. Queen candidates include Jess GEPNER, Annie JOHNSON, Katrina LARSEN, Kary MITCHELL and
Rachel DERSCHEID. King candidates are Brooks BROWN, Scott POORE, Brandon YODER, Ben DORR and Cale HAINLINE.
Over 150 people gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pioneer Historic Center museum in Ellston Sunday
afternoon.
Another new Mount Ayr business was welcomed to the community with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony.
RICKER Air Conditioning and Heating is headquartered in the former PRENTIS Ceramics building on Highway 2 west of
Mount Ayr. The RICKERS recently moved back to Mount Ayr from Arizona, where RICKER had a similar business.
The Mount Ayr Record-News has been presented a reporting award from the state Soil and Water Conservation
Society. The conservation reported award is presented each year to a news media outlet in the state for its coverage
of soil and water conservation issues. The Ringgold County Soil and Water Conservation District nominated publisher
Alan SMITH and the newspaper for the award.
Several Ringgold county residents are featured in "An Autumn Tradition," a story about pheasant hunting in the stae
in the fall issue of The Iowan magazine. There is a picture of Bill HIGHTSHOE and his camouflaged pickup truck
which won the contest in the Pheasant Festival. The story quotes Crae GEIST about hunters coming back year after
year, mentions the Ducks Unlimited banquet held before pheasant season begins, tells about The Lodge in Mount Ayr,
and the hunting lodge that Preston and Katie HAYSE offer.
