When Iowa Test of Basic Skills and Iowa Test
of Educational Development results were received for the 2001-02 school year, Mount Ayr Community school officials had
plenty to be pleased about. While results have generally been good at the elementary school level, results at the junior
high and high school level improved as well this year as new methods of presenting the tests were given.
Clara TERRELL, 17,
daughter of Brian TERRELL and Betsy KEENAN of Maloy, recently returned to Ringgold county after spending an exchange study
year in Hagen, Germany, a small town in the state of North Rhein Westfalia. TERRELL left for Hagen July 19, 2001 and
returned home July 11, 2002. TERRELL is the first Ringgold county student in many years to spend a year abroad in an
exchange program.
Taking reserve champion honors in the halter classes at the Ringgold County Fair horse show was Ethan
ANDRESEN with his horse, Pat Springs Shadow.The top cow-calf pair of the Ringgold County Fair was an Angus pair shown by
Landi McFARLAND. McFARLAND also had the top Angus heifer. Winners in the commercial divisions of the swine and sheep show
at the Ringgold County Fair were Brenna SWANSON who showed the champion commercial gilt of the swine show and Courtney
WEEDA
who showed the champion and reserve champion commercial ewe in the sheep show. Cole WILLIS of Mount Ayr took top honors in
both the new crop heifer and new crop bull classes in the 4-H and FFA competition at the Ringgold County Fair this year.
A big tomato weighed in at three pounds from a Ringgold county garden recently. The tomato plant was started from seed
and then transplanted to the garden later. The tomato came from the garden of Debbie REPP of Mount Ayr.
