Four Mount Ayr homes were part of the annual Christmas tour of homes Saturday night, sharing holiday decorations and
traditions with those who attended. Opening their homes for the tour were Kay and Lloyd DRAKE, Kris and Gary
ROUDYBUSH, Edna and Jim JONES and Athena and Elb STRANGE.
Some 21 major awards and many other awards were handed out to Ringgold county 4-H members during the annual award
recognition program. Members receiving a major award included: Achievement award - Josie DOLECHECK and Dana WEEDA;
Agriculture award - Darren MARTIN, Brian BICKEL and Curt JOHNSTON; Ak-Sar-Ben award - Brian BICKEL; Citizenship
award - Debbie SMITH; Danforth award - Jennifer FARIS and Kevin MILLER; Leadership award - Jennifer FARIS and Craig
McCLURE; Mount Ayr Lions Club award - Debbie SMITH and Craig McCLURE; Merit award - Amy DERSCHEID, Kevin MILLER,
Cindy WALTERS, Shalene PETTIE, Craig McCLURE and Josie RICHARDS; Stockman award - Mike BASTOW and Robert MARTIN.
John and Naomi SHAFER of Redding will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at Fellowship Hall,
Redding United Methodist Church Sunday, Dec. 20.
Debbie GLICK of Mount Ayr was a big lottery scratch game winner this past week. GLICK won $10,000 and $150 on two of
the new Bingo scratch game tickets purchased at Lynn's Texaco.
Nathan SMITH of Mount Ayr was selected as an alternate in the Iowa Music Teacher auditions in Des Moines. SMITH
placed second in the contest at Level F, the highest level for high school musicians.
Wrestling got underway in earnest this past wekk. The Mount Ayr Community Raiders were led by Jim ROTERT who has a
perfect record in his first four matchups of the season and the 152-pound title at the Greenfield tournament.
Damion BOGAN at 140-pounds and Tyson DUKES at 103-pounds placed second and Jack WILT at 130-pounds and
Jacobs KNIGHT at 135-pounds both placed third in the Greenfield tournament.
A ribbon cutting was held at the Midwest Country Music Theater near Redding Friday, recognizing the new Ringgold
county business owned by Mickey MILLER. Music shows are held each Sunday afternoon in a family atmosphere.
A women's bowling team, the Mount Ayr Five, placed second out of 45 teams entered in a tournament at Sky Lanes in
Omaha, NE. Margie BISHOP, captain, and Helen HUNT, Sandra BASTOW, Marion HENDERSON and Rose BOLINGER combined for the high
finals.
