GEORGE BASON

GEORGE BASON (1844-1913)

George BASON was the son of George Griffith BASON (ca. 1805, England - 1854, IL) and Sarah (BURTON) BASON (1807 - 1851) who immigranted to America in July of 1831. George was born in Pennsylvania on November 23, 1844. By the time George was six-years-old, the family had moved to Peoria, Illinois. During the Civil War, George enlisted as a Private on February 28, 1864, and was assigned to Company H of the 116th Illinois Infantry. He transferred to Company F of the 55th Illinois Infantry on June 7, 1865, and was mustered out of service at Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 14th of 1865.

George moved to Iowa, residing in Athens Township of Ringgold County, Iowa, in 1870 where he worked as a farm laborer for Miles Green. In 1874, George married Mary Jane NIECE. Mary Jane, the daughter of George Harrison NIECE (1814, PA - 1896, IA) and Verlinda (BATES) NIECE (1829, VA - 1901, IA), was born in February of 1854, Henry County, Iowa. George died December 3, 1913, Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa. He was interred at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton.

George and Mary Jane were the parents of eight children:
