Types of materials we are looking for include family histories, biographies, photos, obituaries, tombstone photos & inscriptions, cemetery lists, etc.  Because of copyright laws, only materials dated before 1923 or written by the submitter will be accepted.

bullet The searchable WPA Graves registration for Linn County is now complete with 18,506 records from Linn County!  Because it is also a state-wide database, visitors can search one county at a time or they can plug in a surname and search the entire state database at once. Over 1/2 million names presently online. It also has soundex search ability and a very popular "Post-em Note" feature which allows visitors to add to or correct the existing data and also to make themselves known to yet to be discovered cousins. Special thanks to the wonderful volunteers who contributed to the Linn county transcription.  Look for them on the WPA site!  Completed 1/6/2006!

bullet More photos have been added from Czech National Cemetery to the Gravestone Photo Project.  There are now over 8,000 photos online from this cemetery, and 20,800 from cemeteries all over Linn County!  Special thanks to volunteer, Mary Simanek, for photographing this cemetery!
bullet Check out the new special project online for specific counties in Iowa.  The searchable WPA Graves registration.  At this time Linn County is only partially transcribed, but many records are already online!

bullet Added a new database: Linn County Patrons of the Iowa State Atlas of 1875.  This resource includes names, dates, residence and nativity of many of the earliest business owners and prominent citizens in each of the townships.  Added 10/1/2005!

bullet Photographing and uploading of photos from Fairfax cemetery and St. Patrick's cemetery in Fairfax township have been completed. Over 1200 photos from these two cemeteries are now online at the Gravestone Photo Project!   Also photographed and uploaded is St. Joseph's (Stark) cemetery in Clinton Twp.  Watch for updates and links to all these cemetery pages in the coming weeks.  Special thanks to volunteer Rachael Hromidko for photographing these cemeteries!

bullet It's been another busy month for our cemetery volunteers with over 2,400 new photos submitted to the Gravestone Photo Project. We now have over 18,000 Linn County names and photos in this fantastic, searchable database!

bullet Updated Obituary Index section.  The surname index was expanded for easier viewing, and individual lists were reformatted to allow quicker loading times.  Please note that because of the size and format of this database it is not included on the general search tool from the home page for Linn County and will need to be reviewed separately.
bullet A new section focused on church and religious history in Linn County was created.  Includes photos of many of the oldest church buildings, plus some of the well known pastors & priests.
bullet A new page was added to the Echoes of Linn County (Photos) section for the Bruce Family of Troy Mills.  Thanks to Barbara (Bruce) Butler for submitting the wonderful photos and family information!
bullet Updated page for Dickenson (Old Palo) Cemetery.  Includes a list of over 145 photos that have been added to the Gravestone Photo Project and photos of unidentifiable gravestones.  Cemetery Completed  7/12/2005!

bullet Several new biographies from the 1901 Linn County Biographical History book have been added, along with photos for some of the old ones.  Even if you are not related you may want to read about a couple of our county's early female doctors: Kate Anna Mason Hogle, M.D., and Bertha S. Lillie, M.D.
