Born: April 12, 1895 in Ord, Valley Co., Nebraska Obituary: Clara A. LindBaxter - Clara Adelia Lind, 91, of the Colonial Manor in Baxter, a longtime resident, of Colfax, died Wednesday, Oct 8, at the Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Colfax. The Rev. Eldon Nolte, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, east of Colfax. Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax after 11 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted. Survivors are two sons, George and Eldon, both of Colfax; three daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Paul) Wadsworth, Lois (Mrs. Richard) Beals and Evelyn (Mrs. Keith) Nicodemus, all of Colfax; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Worth Phillips of Philadelphia, Pa., and Webster Phillips of McCook, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, in 1951, and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Lind was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church, a 64-year member of the Sugar Grove Grange and a member of the Happy Hour Social Club and the Colfax Senior Citizens. She worked for many years at the sale barn cafe; in Colfax. The daughter of W. L. and Hannah Barber Phillips, she was born April 12, 1895 in Ord, Neb. Esther (Alexander) Lind
Born: June 13, 1914 in Colfax, Jasper Co., Iowa Obituary: Esther LindColfax - Esther Alexander Lind, 74, of Colfax, a former Colfax city clerk and currently an officer in the Iowa State Grange, died Monday, May 16, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Mrs. Lind, a lifelong resident of Colfax, was serving as Pomona at the time of her death and formerly was a seventh degree member of the National Grand and a member of the Sugar Grove Grange. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Colfax United Methodist Church. The Rev. Eldon Nolte, pastor of the church, will conduct services and burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton. Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials to the Grange and the Colfax United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home. Survivors are her husband, George; three sons, Lee, Dennis and Marvin all of Colfax; four grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Alexander of Colfax. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold Alexander. Mrs. Lind, former president of the women's auxiliary of the Iowa Retail Farm Equipment Dealers, was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church. She also had been an employee of the Lind Implement Co. in Colfax. The daughter of Joseph and Florence Patrie Alexander, she was born Jan 13, 1914 in Colfax. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Colfax First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Lind will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, from 2-8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. On March 18, 1944, he married Esther Alexander in Metz. A lifetime resident of the Colfax area, he owned and operated Lind Implement in Colfax from 1949 until 1992. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colfax and a 50-year member of the Sugar Grove Grange, where he served as past grange master. He also was a member of the Iowa Farm Implement Retailer Association and the Colfax Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Lind enjoyed traveling and got to see most of the world on trips that he had received through his business. Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Caroline) Lind and Marvin and his friend Kim Hall, all of Colfax; a daughter-in-law, Judy Lind of Colfax; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Ruth Wadsworth, Lois Beals and Evelyn (Keith) Nicodemus, all of Colfax, and Eldon (Marilyn) Lind of Ankeny.
