Jasper County Resident Dies
S. P. Lind Succumbs Today To Complications
Resulting From a Fall
S. P. Lind, 78, for a number of years a resident of
Jasper county, died at his home in the Sugar Grove
neighborhood shortly after noon today as the result of
various complications arising from a fall received in Newton
some 14 weeks ago.
Mr. Lind, who was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on Aug. 17,
1851, has lived in America for the past 48 or 50 years. He
is survived by his wife, eight children and many other
relatives. No funeral arrangements have as yet been made. ~

Lind Services Held Yesterday At Metz Church
Metz, March 15 -- Funeral services for S. P. Lind were
held yesterday afternoon at the Metz church in charge of Dr.
W. H. Blanke of the Newton Lutheran church. Burial was in
the Sugar Grove cemetery north of Metz.
Pallbearers were John R. Miller, Mel Engle, M. T. Miller,
Louis Helphrey, T. J. Kating and P. H. Healy.
A quartet composed of Tom Hitchel, Viola Burnham, Mrs. Lola
Baty, and Elmer Emmack sang several special numbers
including "The Old Rugged Cross", "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," and "Shall We Gather at the River". Mrs. Glenn Blackledge accompanied the quartet at the piano.
Out of town relatives of Mrs. Lind included Mrs. Eli
Lindberg, daughter, of Chicago, Mrs. Axell Larson,
daughter-in-law, from Chicago, and Ludwig Osland of Chicago,
a brother of Mrs. Lind. ~ The Newton Daily News, March 15,

S. P. Lind
Metz, March 18--Special -- Sven Peter Lind was born in
Lindberget, Sweden, August 17, 1851. On June 24, 1876 he was
united in marriage with Miss Emma Christina Anderson who
preceded him in death Jan 8, 1917. Two children, Charles and
Hilma were born in Sweden.
The little family landed in America May 1, 1889 and located
at Metz, Ia., where Mr. Lind served the Rock Island railroad
as section foreman for 26 years. In that time he had acquired
a comfortable farm home and was engaged in farming the
remainder of his life. On Aug. 17, 1920 he was married to
Mrs. Ida Larson of Chicago who, with his eight children
survive him.
On November 30, last, he suffered a severe fall while in
Newton and has since been under the doctor's care, dying at
12:30 on March 11, 1930, aged 74 years, 6 months and 24
days.
His surviving children are Charles Lind, Mrs. Charles
Dammeier, Mrs. Fred Engle, Mrs. Homer Clement, and Elmer Lind
all of Metz and Mrs. Fred Trimble of Altoona, John Lind of
Stewart, Ia., and Mrs. James Engle of Newton.
Mr. Lind was a member of the Lutheran church in Sweden and
continued that affiliation after coming to America. The
funeral service Friday being in charge of Dr. W. H. Blancke

Mrs. S. P. Lind Of Metz, Iowa Died Monday
Mrs. S. P. Lind passed away at 2 o'clock yesterday at her
home near Metz, Iowa. She suffered a stroke of paralysis
last Thursday evening from which she never recovered.
Besides her husband the deceased is survived by eight
children: - Mrs. Fred Trimble of Mitchellville, Mrs. Homer
Clement of this city, Mrs. Fred Engle, Mrs. Jim Engle, Mrs.
Charles Dunmeier, Charles and Elmer of Metz and Elmer Lind
of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the
Lutheran church and Rev. W. I. Bright will be in charge of

Lingering Illness Fatal To Former Railroad Man;
Rites Friday
John A. Lind, 52, proprietor of the general store at
Metz, southwest of Newton, died at his home at 6:50 o'clock
this morning following a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Murdoch
Funeral home here Friday afternoon, Nov. 27, at 2 o'clock,
with burial in the Sugar Grove cemetery at Metz.
Survivors
Immediate relatives surviving are his wife, the former
Elsie Bechtel; a son, Sgt. Loren Lind of the U. S. army, who
has been with American expeditionary forces in Northern
Ireland since May; two daughters, Mrs. Everett Halvorson of
Newton and Barbara Lind of Metz; a grand daughter Constance
Ann Halvorson; a brother and five sisters. Sgt. Everett
Halvorson is serving with expeditionary forces in
England.
The brother and sisters surviving are Mrs. Hilma
Dammeier, Newton; Mrs. Fred Trimble, of Des Moines, Mrs.
Fred Engle, Newton; Mrs. James Engle, Newton; Mrs. Homer
Clement, Newton, and Elmer Lind, Newton.
Born at Metz
John August Lind was born Jan. 28, 1890 at Metz, one of a
family of eight children, born to S. P. and Emma Lind. He
attended school at Metz and became an employee of the Rock
Island railroad. His father was an employee of the
railroad.
He married Elsie Bechtel at Earlham, Ia., Oct. 14, 1914.
The couple lived at Earlham for a year and a-half, then
moved to Stuart, ia. Mr. Lind was employed as a signal
maintainer for nearly 30 years. He retired from his railroad
position in 1940 because of ill health and returned to Metz
to live.
His parents preceded him in death and a brother, Charles
Lind, died two years ago.
Mr. Lind was a member of the Methodist church at Stuart
and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen of
America and the Jasper county Gun club. ~ The Newton Daily

J.A. Lind Rites are held here
Metz - Final rites were conducted Friday afternoon at the
Murdoch Funeral home for John A. Lind, 52, who died
Wednesday morning at his home here following a serious
illness of seven months. Mr. Lind had been in failing health
for four years.
The Rev. Clyde McDonald of Des Moines conducts the service
and interment was in the Sugar Grove cemetery.
Accompanied at the organ by Mrs. R.L. Jackson, Ralph Miller
sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sometime We'll Understand" during the services.
Pallbearers, all railroad brothers of the deceased, were
Floyd Zike of Des Moines, Bert Umphries of Colfax, Frank
Beck of Grinnell, Pete Milligan of Victor, William Jones of
Atlantic, and Fred McKay of Earlham.
Born at Metz, January 28, 1890, Mr. Lind grew to manhood
here. He served as signal maintainer for the Rock island
railroad for nearly 30 years, until ill health forced him to
retire. In 1904 he became proprietor of the general store at
Metz.
Immediate surviving relatives are his wife, the former Elsie
Bechtel of Earlham; a son, Sgt. Loren Lind of the U.S. army;
two daughters, Mrs. Everett Halvorson whose husband is
serving with the U.S. army in England and Barbara Lind at
home; and a grand daughter, Constance Halvorson who with her
mother resides in the Lind home.
Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Hilma Dammeier, Mrs. Fred Engle, Mrs. James Engle, and Mrs. Homer Clement all of Newton, and one brother Elmer Lind of Newton. His parents and one brother, Charles A. Lind preceded him in death.

MISSION - Loren L. Lind, 69, died Dec 10 at Mission Hospital.
Born in Stuart, Iowa, he had lived in Mission for five
years. He was a retired mechanic.
Survivors are his wife, D. Johannah Lind of Mission; one
son, Chris John Lind of Austin; three daughters, Pamela Kurr
of Austin, Vicki Harm and Marela Koshgarth, both of
Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Helen McCain of Chandler,
Ariz. and Barbara Lewis of Newton, Iowa; six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Virgil
Wilson Mortuary, Mission. The Rev. Merrill Carlson of
