Born: Feb 2, 1862 in Illinois 1 Mrs. Clement, 92, Dies This MorningMrs. Caroline Clement, 92, died at Skiff Memorial hospital at 11:30 a.m. today. She had been a patient there since April, 20. The daughter of Harvey and Rachel Gant, she was married to J. B. Clement, who died in 1916. Mrs. Clement had lived in the county for the past 54 years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. H. M. (Ruby) Tharp, Monroe, and two sons, Homer Clement of Newton and S. W. Clement of Seattle, Wash. ~ The Newton Daily News, June 14, 1954. |
Homer Harry Clement
Born: January 28, 1888 in Scandia, Republic Co., Kansas Homer Clement Dies on Sunday; Rites WednesdayHomer Harry Clement, 77, of Rt. 2, Newton, a resident of the Newton community for more than 60 years, died Sunday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Chapel. The Rev. Arthur V. Long, minister of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. James Davison of the Metz Community Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Clement will lie in state at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Survivors are his wife, Carrie; two sons, Carl and Leland Clement, both of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. John (Elda) Rorabaugh of Colfax; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Stoy Clement of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Mr. Clement was a charter member of the Metz Community Club and Sugar Grove Grange. The son of James and Carolyn Gant Clement, he was born Jan. 28, 1888 at Scandia, Kansas. He was educated in Scandia, Kan., and Poweshiek County schools, after having moved to Grinnell in 1900. Mr. Clement moved to the Newton area in 1903. He was married to Carrie Lind March 6, 1912 at Newton. Mr. Clement was a retired farmer. ~ The Newton Daily News, February 22, 1965. |

Born: February 7, 1892 in Metz, Jasper Co., Iowa Carrie Clement Lifelong Jasper Resident, DiesMrs. Homer (Carrie) Clement, 76, of 404 S. Sixth Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Monday afternoon in Embassy Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Johnson Chapel. Harold Den Hartog, minister of the Metz Community Church, assisted by the Rev. Harold Harryman, associate minister of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Survivors are two sons, Leland H. Clement and Carl L. Clement, both of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. John (Elda) Rorabaugh of Colfax; 11 grand childen; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Hilma Dammeier of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers and husband on Feb. 21, 1965. Mrs. Clement was a charter member of the Metz Community Church and a member of the Sugar Grove Grange, Sugar Grove Ladies Club, Helping Hand Club and Bible Study Club. The daughter of Sven Peter and Emma Christina Anderson Lind, she was born Feb. 7, 1892 in Metz and was educated in Jasper County schools. She was married to Homer Harry Clement, March 6, 1912 in Newton. Mrs. Clement lived most of her life in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, December 17, 1968. |
