Obituary: Leland Clement

Leland Clement: Leland "Tag" Clement, 84, of Careage of Newton, formerly of the Metz area, died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, May 2.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.

Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call Friday after 1 p.m. at the funeral home where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Newton Schools Athletic Department.

The son of Homer H. and Carrie Lind Clement, he was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1933 and farmed in the Metz area all his life. On August 15, 1943, he married Irene Ballard of Monroe. He later married Arlene Edwards of Washington on June 12, 1989.

Mr. Clement was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, Sugar Grove Grange, American Angus Association, was very active as a 4-H leader for many years and was involved in many agricultural organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; six sons, Conrad of Cresco, Larry of Fort Dodge, Bruce of Des Moines, Stan of Newton, Dave of Ottumwa and Brad of Marshalltown; a daughter, Carmen Henderson of Odenville, Ala.; a sister, Elda Rorabaugh of Colfax; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Irene, and a brother. ~ Newton Daily News, May 3, 2001

Newton - Leland "Tag" Clement, 84, of Newton died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Wednesday at Careage of Newton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Newton, with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton.

Mr. Clement was born in Newton and had lived in the Metz area most of his life before returning to Newton in 1999. He was a farmer, a member of Jasper County Farm Bureau, Sugar Grove Grange, American Angus Association, and was active as a 4-H Club leader and in many agricultural organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Washington; six sons, Conrad of Cresco, Larry of Fort Dodge, Bruce of Des Moines, Stan of Newton, Dave of Ottumwa and Brad of Marshalltown; a daughter, Carmen Henderson of Odenville, Ala.; a sister, Elda Rorabaugh of Colfax; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene.

Obituary: Irene Clement

Shelbyville, KY. - Irene Clement, 62, of Shelbyville, Ky., a former longtime resident of Jasper County, died Monday afternoon at a Louisville, Ky. Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

The Rev. Steven Williams, associate pastor of the church, and the Rev. Harold Den Hartog, pastor of the Metz Community Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions to the Peck Child Care Center or Progress Industries will be accepted.

Survivors include her husband, Leland; six sons, Conrad of Grand Meadow, Minn., Larry of Fort Dodge, Bruce of Des Moines, Stan of Newton, Dave of Ottumwa and Brad of Marshalltown; a daughter Carmen (Mrs. Timothy) Henderson of Simpsonville, Ky.; and 16 grandchildren.

Also surviving are five sisters, Gladys Platt of Indianola, Freda Clark of Runnells, Darlene Karr of Monroe, Anne Barrons of Canyon Lake, Tex., and Donna Ballard of Columbia, Md.; and her mother, Anna Ballard of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her father and an infant brother.

Mrs. Clement, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton and former member of the Sugar Grove Grange, had been employed in the Newton Schools, Peck Child Care Center and Progress Industries, all of Newton, and Childtown Day Care Center in Shelbyville, Ky.

The daughter of Berlin and Anna Smith Ballard, she was born Feb 5, 1924 in Swan and graduated from Monroe Community high School, She was married Aug 15, 1943 in Monroe. ~ Newton Daily News, October 21, 1986

Obituary: Gloria Clement

Gloria N. Green Clement, 38, of Rt. 2 Box 276, Newton, a longtime resident of the Newton community, died of cancer Sunday afternoon, May 28, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today.

Christian wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to a fund in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Stanley; two sons, Lucas, 7, and Tyler, 4, both at home; two brothers, Gary Green and Galen Green, both of Newton; a sister Gayla (Mrs. David) Hannagan of Newton; and her parents, Otto J. and Mary Elizabeth Schmidt Green of Newton.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Mrs. Clement, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, previously had worked for the First National Bank for 10 years as a loan marketing officer.

She was born Aug. 29, 1950 in Newton and was a 1968 graduate of Newton Community High School.
