Obituary: Edward Emmack

Edward Emmack was born in Pennsylvania, November 17, 1830, and died at about seven o'clock Thursday morning, March first, 1906, after nearly three months' sickness of heart trouble. Deceased was 75 years, three months and twelve days old at the time of his death. He was married to Rebecca Trusler February 15, 1855 in Norwich, Muskingum county, Ohio. To them were born three children, who, with his wife survive him. They are Charles H., John V, and Mrs. Anna Haifleigh, all of whom live in Sherman township. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters: Mrs. Margaret Trusler, who resides at the John Sego home near Ira; Mrs. Hattie Myers of ?, Iowa and a sister, Caroline, of Ohio; William of Columbus City, Illinois; Charles Emmack, of Kansas City, Missouri.

The funeral services were held at the home near Sand Hill school house in Sherman township, on Saturday, March third, at one o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. Young of the U. B. church of Carlyle, Iowa, conducting the services.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Harry Hesson, Mrs. Charlie Botsford, Earl Hadley and Grant Hurst sang several selections.

Messrs. John Kendig, Charles and Lawson Watt, Mike Bales, P. R. Pink and Charlie Botsford were the pall bearers. Interment at Metz cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, March 5, 1906, Page 1, Column 2

Mrs. Emmack Died Today At Home of Her Son

Mrs. Rebecca Emmack died today at 11 o'clock at the home of her son, John Emmack, 8 1-2 miles northwest of town, after an illness of several months. She was seventy-eight years old and had been a highly respected resident of Jasper county for twenty-seven years. Her native state was Ohio.

Mrs. Emmack leaves three children greatly grieved by her death. They are John Emmack, Harold Emmack and Mrs. J. C. Haifleigh.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the John Emmack home and the body will be taken to Metz for burial. ~ The Newton Daily News, February 7, 1912

Charles Emmack Dies Yesterday

Has Lived On His Farm Located Six Miles West
of Newton for Last 40 Years

Charles H. Emmack, well known Jasper county farmer, died at his home six miles west of Newton, yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock following an illness of two weeks. He was 73 years of age at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Metz church and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Emmack is survived by his widow, two sons, Guy Emmack of near Monroe and Elmer Emmack of the Metz Neighborhood and one sister, Mrs. J. C. Halfleigh of Newton and one brother, J. V. Emmack of Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, August 19, 1929

Rites Monday for Mrs. Emmack, 88,
of Newton Area

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Emmack, 88, who was a resident of the Sugar Grove neighborhood for more than 57 years, will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Johnson-Murcoch funeral Home in Newton.

Rev. E. A. Briggs, pastor of the First Methodist church in Newton, will officiate at the rites. Burial will be at the Sugar Grove cemetery.

The daughter of Robert and Louisa Love, Mrs. Emmack was born Oct. 23, 1860 in Illinois. She received her education in the country schools of Illinois and lived in Illinois until 1882 when she moved to Muscatine county, Ia. After three years there, she moved to Jasper county.

She was married to Charles H. Emmack Dec. 19, 1878, in Illinois, and she and her husband lived at their old homestead north of Sugar Grove for 57 years. She was a member of the Metz Baptist church.

Besides her son, Elmer, she is survived by another son, Guy Emmack of Route 1, Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Sturdevant of Sioux Falls, S. D.; nine grandchildren, Dale Emmack of Prairie City, Donovan Emmack of Newton, Mrs. Glen Blackledge of Newton, Mrs. Richard Sille of Newton, Delmar Emmack of Newton, Lyle Emmack of Newton, Mrs. Zelma Williams of Newton, Mrs. John Ball of Newton, Mrs. Earl Runyan of Monroe, and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a stepdaughter, Jennie Phillips, whom the Emmacks took into their home at the age of two and who died when she was 18. ~ Newton Daily News, July 23, 1949.
