Born: June 6, 1919 in Metz, Jasper Co., Iowa Delmar Emmack killed Thursday; rites SaturdayPrairie City -- Delmar G. Emmack, 64, a farmer who resided two miles north of Prairie City, was killed Thursday in a farm tractor accident. Funeral services for Mr. Emmack, a lifelong Jasper County resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City. The Rev. James Seibert, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City after 6 p.m. today. Survivors are his wife, Joy; a son, Delmar L. of Colfax; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Sille of Newton; and a brother, Donovan of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Mr. Emmack, a member of the Sugar Grove Grange, was former president of the Mound Prairie Township School board. The son of Elmer and Georgia Miller Emmack, he was born June 6, 1919 at Metz and was a 1936 graduate of Newton Community High School. A funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. The daughter of L.T. and Mary (Giles) Clark, she was born July 26, 1921, in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School in Prairie City. On July 30, 1939, she married Delmar G. "Bud" Emmack in Bethany, Mo. He died in 1983. On Feb. 7, 1989, she married Walter A. Machin in Houston, Mo. She was a homemaker and a farm wife and a member of her coffee club at Midtown Café in Newton. She enjoyed traveling, flowers, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and having coffee with friends. Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Delmar L. and Mary Emmack of Colfax; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Richard "Dick" and Darlene Machin and Lloyd and Diane Machin, all of Newton, and Dennis Machin of Kellogg; two step-daughters and a son-in-law, Marie Hoffman of Newton and Lucinda and Tom Hollingshead of Ogden; 14 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren. Born: September 08, 1943 in Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa ObituaryDelmar L. Emmack, age 66 of Colfax, died Wednesday, September 09, 2009, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church, with burial following at Metz Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the church. The son of Delmar George and Vivian Joy (Clark) Emmack, Delmar was born on September 8, 1943, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Monroe High School and attended Iowa State University for one year. On October 15, 1966, he was united in marriage to Mary Burns at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. He served in the Iowa National Guard and farmed all of his life as well as working at Maytag for 20 years. Delmar loved to be in his garden, selling vegetable’s at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market for 15 years as well as other farmers markets. Spending time with his family was very important to Delmar, especially his kids, grandkids and riding his Gator with his dog Ruby. Those left to honor his memory were his wife of 41 years, Mary; his children, Daphne Dawn Owens and her husband Charlie and Nathan Dale Emmack and his wife Kirsten all of Colfax and four grandchildren, Zoey, Blake, Tate, and Jasper.
