Obituary for Freddie Smith Sr.

From the Ottumwa Courier dated 20 Oct 1986.

"Freddie Smith Sr., 49, of Ottumwa Route 4, died at is home Oct. 19, 1986.

He was born June 9, 1937, in Fremont to Donald and Helen Tressler Smith. He was a veteran of the Air Force and was employed at Everco Industries.

He is survived by his father; a son, Freddie L. Jr. of Ottumwa; four daughters, Illa Claussen, Lori Eddy, and Cindy Smith of Ottumwa and Jeanie Hickman of Reading, England; six grandchildren; three brothers, Robert of Winfield, and Tim and Mike of Ottumwa; and five sisters, Sherry Grounwald of Colorado, Linda DeFord of Minnesota, Gail Traul and Nancy Wilcox of Ottumwa and Vicki Taylor of Bloomfield.

The services will be 3 p.m. today at the Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, the Rev. Thomas Mohr officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Paulbearers will be Steven, Joe, Vernon, and Ed Claussen, Scott Hickman, and Don Teninty.

A memorial fund has been established."

There is an additional two sentences in another portion of the paper that indicates that the death was ruled a suicide by the Wapello County Sherriff's Office.
