Thanks much for the info about Henry & Mary J. Kearns' deaths. Little by little I've had to piece together the info about this Mary J. (Orndorff Sherrod) Kearns. I know she and Sherrod were divorced and that one of her sons died young. I do wish there'd been an obit published naming her survivors. My grandmother was her adoptive sister who died in Neosho Co. Kansas in 1932, never telling my father (her only child) about her family. I wonder if Mary J. and my grandmother stayed in touch with ea. other.
I know Mary J's mother, Eliza (Orndorff Willard)Klingler adopted my grandmother in early 1880's in Wapello Co. My grandmother told my father her "only" sister died in the San Francisco earthquake.
Your info about Mary J. Kearns dying in 1931 rules out that story! My grandmother's biological sister, whose first name was also "Mary", was adopted by Wm. & Elizabeth Adams in Jefferson Co. IA. I recently found Wm. Adams and his wife both died in Orange Co. CA., but have not been able to find anything about their adopted daughter.
Was the information you posted about Mary J. Kearns' death a newspaper announcement, or was it a death record in the court house?
I do appreciate the check up about the Kearns deaths.
