Dear Eileen, we received a reply from the Mayer family of Savanna, IL. They told us of the family connection in Bonaparte, IA. We mailed the bible to them on Friday 2/28. On further inspection of the bible and the inscriptions I believe Fred Johns of Bonaparte may have carried the bible during service in World War I. Under his name is "337th Field Artillery, France. On the inside cover, written sideways is " Charles Johns, Feb 15th-1943, Savanna,IL. My father-in-law, John E. Daller was with the 34th Inf Div which comprised of National Guard unit from Minnesoata, Illinois and the Dakotas. Perhaps they met while fighting in Italy. I hope we sent the bible to family members. If you can shed any light on the matter please let us know. Sincerely Jay & Debbie
