Tombstone Inscription

WHITNEY, THOMAS

In the Ireton Cemetery is a tombstone for a young woman. Elizabeth A. Whitney (Thomas) age 28yr months days, wife of C. L. I thought the (Thomas) should be either her maiden name or a previous married name. I found her marriage record in Plymouth County and it listed her as Elizabeth Barridge, and her parents were also named Barridge. It was her first marriage. So, if the marriage record is correct, it's not her maiden name or a previous married name. Any other ideas? I'm stumped?

I found Charles L. and Elizabeth Whitney in the 1885 Sioux County Census, but I haven't found anything else about them.

What's so strange is that William J. Thomas, one of my ancestors, is buried next to her in Ireton. I couldn't figure out how she fit, now it looks like she doesn't fit at all. Thanks Janet
