Donna, I found my when my family came over. They came through Castle Garden on June 14,1858, the ship was Johannes. The name was spelled Wochisin. There was 3 other children that I did not know about. Friedr (Frederick) 16, Caroline 14 and Gustav (Gustovus) 9. Also Hellen known to us was spelled Alwine and Charles my gggrandfather was Carl. Carl is the german name for Charles so I'm assuming Alwine means Hellen. Also Mary was actually Maria. There are so many versions of the name Wokosin that the search is tedious but it keeps you riveted. I've also found that many of the families gave their children the same names so sometimes when you think you've got a match its another family. I do believe that your family is a brother of My gg granfather Charles. I'll keep you posted as I find out more. Frederick seems to have died in 1868 and is buried in Deep River, IA. It looks like he served in the GAR. Annie the youngest child born in Illinois, who I thought was married to Zeigebhagen was a different Annie altogether. With so many names the same its hard sometimes. I believe Caroline married Frederick Johann Zierk. Gustov married a gal named Mary. I've found a burial of a Mary Wokosin in Iowa that has G.Wokosin as the husband but the birthdate is that of his mother's (Mary). I'm still trying to find where the family came from in Prussia. They shipped out of Hamburg but that's as far as I've gotten there.
