The Poweshiek County Courthouse should have records identifying the location of an owned farm in Poweshiek County - land bought, land taxed, land sold, liens filed and satisfied, etc. (Link below)

Without dashing cold water on your search, Route 6 historically passed through Brooklyn (and all the way across Poweshiek County) from east to west. "[A]bout 10 miles north on route 6" just doesn't happen in Poweshiek Co.

Even "10 miles north OF route 6" is going to put you out of the township Brooklyn is in (Bear Creek), on or above the Poweshiek-Tama County line!

I didn't spot a Hilligas property on the Madison or Bear Creek Twp. plat-maps of 1896 or 1927, but that could be my oversight...
