MRS. CARL HILLIGAS RITES HELD TUESDAY

Leona Hilligas, age 74, the wife of Carl Hilligas of 1329 West Street, Grinnell, died Saturday night, June 9, at the Grinnell General hospital following an extended illness.

The daughter of Charles and Ida Shank, she was born on November 15, 1898 at Brooklyn, and she received her education in the public schools of this community.

She was married to Carl Hilligas on Jan. 9, 1922 at Des Moines. Following their marriage they farmed in the Brooklyn community until 1949 when they moved to Grinnell and her husband was employed by the City for eleven years.

She is survived by her husband, Carl, a son, Gerald Hilligas of Cicero, Ill., and her three grandchildren: Preston, Wesley and Geraldine Hilligas and a sister, Mrs. Olive Buck of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hilligas were held Tuesday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the graveside of the family lot in the I.O.O.F. at Brooklyn. Rev. Hugh A. Shively, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated.

The James-Schalinske Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
