I am a decendant of William Kilgore who also made a journal of his trip to CA in abt.1850. This may be the same William Kilgore. Would love to share information with you...contact me directly at elks4098@in2l.com The journal talks of leaving Keokuk and leaving his wife, 2 children and a niece in greater Des Moines. I also found William in the 1840 Census. I have been curious for years about what happened between the "Journal" time and the 1870's. Evelyn
