Moli, did you check the 1840 Census on the Lee Co. site? I found a Mathew Kilgore there. So it would seem that he was in Lee Co. for at least ten years. Iowa didn't open to settlers until 1833, so its doubtful he settled here before then. It will be difficult to find any other records of him at this early of a date. Good luck with your research!
