Hi! My gg grandfather was Edward Flaherty! I believe he came from Co Galway, Clifden, Ardbear townland. I am unsure of his port of entry but he made his way across the country first in Maine, then Pa, then IL and then IA. In the Chicago census of 1855, I believe, he is listed along with many others with Irish names that became settlers in Iowa. They appeared to be living and traveling together. The Clayton Co newspapers have been digitized and they are a great resource when searching for names.
