Thanks so much for your helpful response, Sharyl. You've given me a few ideas for follow-up.

I'm familiar with the Celtic Cousins website and have found useful information there.

Do you know whether anyone has done cluster research on early Irish immigrants to Clayton County to identify groups who migrated together or by chain migration from ports of entry in the U.S. and Canada and specific locations in Ireland? I've been looking for connections between Bernard and John in Volga and others with variants of the Conerty surname in nearby counties in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I'm also studying Irish records for these names as I try to determine Bernard Conerty's birthplace since I haven't yet found a record of his baptism.
