In Response To: Catholic Sacraments 1855-1865 (Lesley K. Cafarelli)

Hello,

I've done a lot of research in Clayton County, but unfortunately not so much in the Catholic Church records (mostly the Lutheran church records). However, one family I'm connected to was Catholic and lived in Volga Township in this same era (Flaherty), and Flaherty children were baptized through the Catholic church at Garber or Elkport (St. Michael's) as early as 1864 and into the early 1880s. A couple of the older children were baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg (1858 and 1860). I don't know where the St. Michael's records are now, but the Clayton County Genealogical Society might know, and they might also know the best way to get access to the St. Mary records. It was the early to mid 1980s when I did that particular research, and the priest serving St. Michael's church at that time gave me access to those. I don't remember how I got access to the St. Mary's records.
