My brother John and I both were born in Buffalo and still live in the vicinity. My Father was Allan Karl Ihde (he had a sister Lucille (Ihde) Kirk, My Grandfather's name was John Louis Ihde. He also had a sister Norma (Ihde) MacDonald of Toronto. My great-great grandfather was named Frederich. I became interested in researching the Ihde family crest but have not found anything substantive about it. My Aunt Lucille said she saw it once a very long time ago. She described it as a double headed black hawk or eagle on an orange field with a centered single light blue vertical line. She also said the Ihde family motto is "Life without honor is nothing" which is written in German under the crest. There are three ostrich plumes to the left and a perched owl to the right. If anyone can verify this information I would be most appreciative. Too often our relatives leave us with a lot of unanswered questions.
