In Response To: Reinhart, John 1825-1903 (Civil War Vet.) (Reid R. Johnson)

In regard to the confusion about John Reinhart and his age at the time of his death. There was another man who died on 4 November 1903 and was born on 8 December 1825. His name was John Reinhardt who was born in Schwerin-Mecklenburg, Germany and was a resident around Guttenberg. He is on FIND A GRAVE in the Guttenburg Cemetery in Clayton County. John Reinhart, subject of this obituary, was part of the group of people who left Switzerland and began setting up homesteads around Elgin, Iowa. John is buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa. John's wife and two or 3 of his children are buried in the Apostolic Cemetery near Elgin, Iowa. I have found that the Swiss used the Reinhart spelling and the Germans used the Reinhardt spelling. I suspect that since the two men died in the month of November in 1903, the writer of the obituaries may have inter-mixed the facts when writing for the newspaper in Elkader. John Reinhart was a brother to Jacob Reinhart b. 8 January 1846 and d. 5 April 1923. Their mother, Anna Barbara Reinhart, was born in 1813 and died in 1898. She is buried in the Apostolic Cemetery. Her obituary appears in the obituaries for Clayton County IaGenWeb.
