Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 07 May 1908. From the Elgin Echo, undated.
Friday, April 23, our citizens were surprised and grieved when word was brought to town that Asle Olson had passed away at his home a few miles from this city at two o'clock that morning. For some time he had not been in the best of health but no one thought the end was near. Thursday he was in Elkader, but while returning home he was taken very sick. That evening he felt much better and sat in his chair and conversed with his family, retiring at the usual hour. In the early hours of the morning he was again taken very ill and a short time thereafter he died. Heart trouble was the cause. Deceased was born in Norway and was sixty-five years and four months of age at the time of his death. He had been married twice and was the father of thirteen children, eight of whom were by his first wife and five by his second. There were six boys and seven girls. Besides his wife and immediate family many relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss.
Asle Olson was a man well and favorably known and by hard labor and constant application had accumulated a competency of this world's goods and he leaves a goodly estate. Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, and the remains were laid to rest in Gunder Lutheran church cemetery. - Elgin Echo.
