Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 30 Mar. 1911.
On Wednesday morning, March 22d, at Wausau, Wis., occurred the death of Mrs. John Downey, after a long illness. Everything that tender hands could do was done, but all proved to be in vain.
The remains were brought to Elkader last Saturday, and, after services at St. Joseph's church, were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery beside her two daughters, who had gone before.
Deceased was born in Elkader about 45 years ago and has continually resided here until four years ago, When Mr. and Mrs. Downey and family moved to Merrill, Wis.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and four children, Hazel, James and Mildred, of Merrill, Wis., and Frank, of South Dakota, besides other relatives and many neighbors and friends.
The Lady Foresters, of which order she was a member, escorted the remains from the depot to the church and from there to her last resting place.
She is gone but not forgotten. May she rest in peace.
