There are times in the course of the human life, when events occur, which are remembered to the end, and bear with them sweet and pleasant thoughts which greatly smooth the rough paths, which lead to the life eternal. Such was the event which occurred in Elkader, on Wednesday, when two loving hearts were united for all time to come.
At the Catholic church on that date occurred the marriage of Mr. John Downey, of Cox Creek township, to Miss Rosanna, daughter of Patrick Hogan, of Elkader. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Quigley, in the presence of a number of friends and relatives. After the ceremony, the bridal party, attended by their friends, repaired to the residence of the bride's parents, where a sumptuous repast awaited them, and to which all did ample justice.
Mr. Downey is a young man, well and favorably known throughout the county, honest, industrious, and will receive the best wishes of all for a long and happy life.
Miss Hogan, who has thus auspiciously taken up a new life, has lived here all her life, and has a large circle of friends, drawn to her by her sweet manners and womanly virtues, and though all regret to lose her from among them, yet they bestow their choicest congratulations on her, for a life of continued happiness and prosperity.
The newly married couple will take up their residence near Osborne, where Mr. Downey is engaged in the creamery, where the Register hopes they will find life in all the rosy hues in which they have painted it. The young couple were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents, but our space is to limited to permit of the publication of the list.
The Register force extend their thanks for the excellent lot of wedding cake received.
Elkader Register, Fri., 29 June 1883.
