Elkader Register, Fri., 28 Apr. 1882. Strawberry Point Scratchings column.
This lively little town is trying metropolitan airs, and in order to keep up with the larger towns, must have a burglary now and then. The latest was the breaking into the store of Leichhardt & Co., dealers in hardware, on Thursday night, where the thieves secured 17 revolvers, 28 pounds of cartridges, some pocket knives, and some small change which had been left in the money drawer over night.
This was followed Friday noon by the robbing of the money drawer in the railroad depot, which was done while Mr. Davis, the agent, was at dinner. The thieves secured about $750.
From all indications those robberies have been committed by "home talent", who knew the surroundings perfectly, thus being enabled to escape.
