From the "History of Appanoose County Iowa", published in 1986, there were about 90 mines operating in Appanoose county in that period, and Exline was one of busiest areas, so there were probably quite a few. You might try writing the Appanoose County Historical and Coal Mining Museum and see if they can give you a list:

For a good overview of mining in Appanoose county, you can read the book "History of Coal Mining In Iowa & Coal Statistics" which has a section on mining in Appanoose county as of 1908:
