Orange Township

The following history is from the Clinton Herald, July 4, 1976:

This area, set aside in 1846, was divided in half with the eastern part known as Union Township, the name was changed to Orange in 1856.  The area was not developed extensively until the railroad went through in 1858.

Grand Mound was founded in 1858 as a station of the Chicago, Iowa and Nebraska Railroad.  The town, which sits on a high mound overlooking a farming area, was not platted until 1866, and was incorporated in 1884.

(Known as Union Township prior to July 1854.)

I have identified an old postcard found in my grandmother Katherine Krayenhagen`s affects as the American Mutual Insurance Building and listed on the National Register of Historic Places located in Grand Mound, Clinton County, Iowa. I was assisted in this endeavor by Ann Soenksen president of the DeWitt, Iowa Genealogy and Historical society. This old post card is done in the AZOA style. I also have family photos that were done in postcards as this one. The writing on the top corner says W.M. Dugan 1905. Direction signs read To Clinton 25 miles To Cedar Rapids 57 miles.
