In Response To: George Phillips (Elda Jones)

The following was posted to the Wapello county discussion list by vlhresearcher@comcast.net. Since I do not know if you are a member of the list, I have copied the message here with some added facts in [ ].

"Some additional miscellaneous information may help you in your search for George Phillips. The obituary of Anna R. Davis Dennis Phillips stated she was a charter member of the Ottumwa Eastern Star. Her first husband Silas Dennis died in 1887 in Wapello County. Perhaps he was a mason or George may have been a mason. If George was a mason you may find records through that venue.

Anna Rachel Davis was born October 15, 1858, in Wapello County and was a d/o Edgehill Benjamin Davis and Elizabeth Catherine Harlan. Anna died about May 18, 1946, and was buried in the Ottumwa Cemetery. She and her first husband Silas E. (also found as Silas M. and as T.M.) Dennis had two children Willa Lee who married Mr. Millisack,[married William D. Millisack on 24 Jun 1896] and son Silas Eugene Dennis [married Hessie Regina Leonard on 12 Sep 1909]. Anna's obituary stated her daughter Mrs. Millisack was living in Ottumwa and her son S.E. Dennis was living in Wichita, Kansas. Her obituary also stated that George Phillips died in 1925. Anna was affiliated with the Christian Church. Lester Jay Funeral Home made the arrangements for Anna's burial. This information may suggest other sources you might try for determining more about this George.

Silas Dennis was s/o Caswell and Cyrena (Yadon) Dennis who came to Wapello County in 1864. Silas was born May 23, 1842, in Shelbyville, Indiana. I hope this helps in giving you more to work with in your search for George."
