Thank you Bill. Actually, this helps me a great deal. Not only have you given me Mary's husband's name but now I know that they were probaly in Lee Co. before 1870. I apologize for the lack of data but the history written by James' nephew stated only that David and James had gone to Iowa 'before it was granted statehood'. Apparently, the family did not remain in contact after the brothers left IN. My branch of the family remained in Ross and then Highland Co.'s in OH. My 4xgt.grandfather came to Polk Co., IA after he returned from serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. As far as I know, Noble Caldwell had no idea that he had family as close as Wapello(and then Lee) Co., IA.
Your offer of help in the future is also much appreciated. I should love to "gather the clan" together, even if its only by e-mail, post or telephone!
