Thanks, Eric. I appreciate your assistance. I'm trying to find the ancestry of Mary McDermott who married John Chesire at Anamosa 17 Jan 1864. I thought perhaps she may be the Mary listed as a child of James and Ellen McDermott in the 1856 Washington Twp. census. However, this census gives her birthplace as Iowa, while later censuses say it was Ireland. As for the other James McDermott born in 1804, perhaps they are cousins. Irish families used to recycle the same names, leading to a lot of confusion.
