Alfred James Kahrs of Anchorage, Alaska, died Aug. 10, 1946, at the age of 57 years and 21 days. He was born July 20, 1889, near Clayton, Iowa, the son of the late John and Mary Albrecht Kahrs of Mederville. During World War I he served as a sergeant in the 3th Field Artillery.

June 14, 1924, he was married to Ruth Hageman of Garber, at Harlowtown, Mont.

Besides his widow he is survived by one son and one daughter. They are: James, recently discharged from the Navy, and Mary, of Garber. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. Louise Burgeson, Chicago, Ill.; John, Waterloo; Grover, Manchester; Mrs. Carrie Elmer, San Diego, Calif.; Henry, Sheridan, Calif.; Mrs. Anna Kopriva, Sheridan, Calif., and Fred, Elkader.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Immanuel Lutheran church at Elkport, with the Rev. E. H. Mueller in charge.

A male quartet composed of Lowell Thein, Francis Behning, LaVern Kuehl and Marvin Kuehl, accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Mueller, furnished the music.

Pall bearers were: Albert Behrens, Merritt Alderson, Walter Schuldt, Charles Hubbard, Newell Kramer and Hugh Peake.

Burial was in Mt. Harmony cemetery with the Lemka-Stendel post of the American Legion in charge.
