The death of Emmett Daniel Thyne, 65, occurred Tuesday, July 26, at St. Joseph's hospital, Dubuque, where he had been a medical patient two weeks. He had been in failing health the past three years.
Born at Cox Creek, February 13, 1890, he was one of a large family of children born to Austin and Mary Henry Thyne. He attended the rural school in his neighborhood.
In June 1917 he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Minihan at Volga. They farmed near here and in March 1927, moved to Volga. Mrs. Thyne died December 17, 1935.
On July 08, 1939, he was married to Miss Maguerite Theobald of Iowa City in a wedding ceremony at Verndale, Minn. They established their home in Volga, where Mr. Thyne resided until his death.
Mr. Thyne formerly served a number of years as a town council member and a director on the local school board.
Services were held Thursday, July 28, at Sacred Heart church. The Rev. Karl J. Klein, pastor, read the Requiem Mass at 9 a.m., and officiated at the graveside in Sacred Heart cemetery, where interment was made.
Mr. Thyne was a member of the Holy Name society and Sacred Heart league.
Casket bearers were: Marlowe Burke, Fredericksburg; Ray Thole, Lamont; Raphael Orr, Leo Little, Michael Martin and Laurence Richards, Volga.
Besides his wife of Volga, he is survived by one brother, Robert Thyne, Elkader; five sisters, Anna Mullen, Grace Wiley, Florence Courtnage and Josephine Thyne, Strawberry Point, and Eileen Putz, Edgewood; a number of nieces nephews and cousins.
His parents, two sisters and four brothers also preceded him in death.
