Josephine Venus Liers, the daughter of Frank and Caroline Liers, was born Dec. 29, 1875, at Elkader, Iowa, and died July 01, at Waukon, while a patient in the Waukon hospital at the age of 79 years, six months and two days. Miss Liers had been in failing health since last December. She received her education in the Elkader public school and taught for a number of years in this vicinity.

While attending Upper Iowa university at Fayette, she received a call to mission service in India under the Methodist Episcopal church and served her Lord in India for thirty-two years. She was actively engaged in Evangelistic and educational work in the Central Provinces of India. In 1940 she was forced to give up her work in India because of her health. Miss Liers had a happy, friendly dispsition which won her many friends among the Christian and non-Christian in India.

Her late years were spent in Clayton, Iowa.

Survivors include two brothers, Emil of Homer, Minn., and Frank of Clayton, and one sister Louise of Elkader.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 03, at 2:30 p.m. at the Witt funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at Clayton.
