Funeral services for Charles Topel, age 92, were held Friday afternoon, May 20, at 1:30 from the Pilgrim Evangelical United Brethren church. The Rev. A. W. Ebert officiated. Burial was in the Monona cemetery.
Mr. Topel was born August 08, 1862, in Belgrot Hinter Bommer, Germany, and died at the McGregor hospital, after an illness of several months, on Tuesday, May 17.
On December 01, 1887, he was united in marriage with Mathilde Schlitter at the Watson Evangelical church near Monona. Most of his life was spent in farming in Allamakee county.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1931, one son Charles in 1949, and a son Herman, who died April 20, 1955.
Survivors include five sons: Clarence, Bert, Theodore, Elmer, and George; one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Minnie) Klima; fifteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of this vicinity.
Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Hass and David Schlitter.
Pallbearers were eight nephews: Donald Schlitter, Elmer Schlitter, Lester Schlitter, Dayton Schlitter, Leslie Schlitter, Carlton Schlitter, Gaylord Schlitter, and Eldred Schlitter.
