Mrs. Catherine A. Connell was born Feb. 28, 1875, daughter of James and Anna Garaghty, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa. She became ill April 13, and died May 02 at the St. Francis hospital, Waterloo, from a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was married to James F. Connell at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Elkader.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and husband. She is survived by seven children Mrs. Anna West, Sioux City; Mrs. Sara McElhaney and Miss Catherine Connell of Los Angeles, Calif.; Edward and Martin of Waterloo, and James and John on the home farm, Elkader; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Mame Garaghty and Mrs. Elizabeth Brennan of Waterloo, and one brother, Michael Garaghty of Elkader.

Mrs. Connell was a member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and Ladies Guild of St. Joseph's church, Elkader.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 Thursday morning, May 05, at the St. Joseph's church and burial was in the St. Joseph's cemetery.
