Cora Minnie (Bowes) Borden was born Sept. 26, 1878, at Logan, Harrison county, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mary Lucina (Benc) Bowes. The family later moved to Woodbine, Iowa, where she attended school.
She was married June 19, 1895, to Harry M. Borden at Hawarden, Iowa, where the couple made their home until 1909, when they moved to Hecla, S.D., where her husband died Sept. 07, 1929. Mrs. Borden moved back to Iowa, coming to Volga in May of 1935, where she spent the remainder of her life.
She had been in declining health since October, 1954, and died Thursday, May 05, 1955, following a heart attack. Mrs. Borden was president of the Ladies Aid in the Detroit Methodist Episcopal church for many years, and at the time of her death was a member of the Methodist church in Volga.
To Mr. and Mrs. Borden were born 12 children, all of whom survive, namely: Howard H. of Volga; George W. of Hecla, S.Dak.; Randall F. of Volga; Zella M. Dyer of Britton, S.Dak.; Edna R. Robinson and Blanche V. Denger of Anaheim, Calif.; Harry M. of Fullerton, Calif.; Charles A. in France; Arthur G. of Frederick, S. Dak.; Ida M. (Mrs. David Holsman), Volga; William R. of Covina, Calif.; and Dorothy L. (Mrs. Arthur Voshell) of Volga.
Surviving also are 28 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a half-brother, Albert Schuler of Moody, Mo.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Volga, Saturday, May 07, at 3:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Frank C. Greene, pastor. Singers were Mrs. Oliver Follon and Miss Peggy Robinson, the accompanist, Mrs. Wallace K. Oldfather. Casket bearers were Howard Taylor, Oscar Andreae, Floyd Leming, Leroy Sloan, Roy Candee and Don Leete.
Interment was at Hecla, S.Dak.
