Clayton County Register, 21 April 1955.
Augusta Christina Brabandt, daughter of Christian Brabandt and his wife, Louisa, was born on August 29, 1886, at Volga, Iowa, and lived her entire life in that community. She attended the public schools and was graduated from the local high school with the class of 1903. For several years she taught in the rural schools of Clayton county.
On October 02, 1908, she was united in marriage with Robert W. Duff. One son, Cecil, was born to this union.
Early in life she united with the Presbyterian church and this membership she retained all through the years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and the Missionary society.
Gusta, as she was familiarly known, enjoyed and was endowed with exceptional musical ability. For many years and as long as her health permitted she served as organist in her church and gave unstintingly of her time and talent to various civic and community projects. Being of a happy and genial disposition, she made many friends. For eight years she served as her husband's assistant in the local postoffice.
In April, 1941, the family moved to the farm west of Volga which they purchased and which has since been her home.
During August, 1949, while on a visit to her sister in Illinois, Mrs. Duff suffered a stroke which left her an invalid. During the last five and one-half years, she was tenderly cared for by her husband and son Cecil and his wife. She bore her affliction patiently and often gave encouragement and cheer to other shut-ins and friends with her extensive correspondence, which she so much enjoyed.
Early in the morning of April 18, she suffered a heart attack and died quietly at 2 o'clock a.m. having reached the age of 68 years, 7 months and 20 days.
Survivors are her husband, Robert W. Duff: her son, Cecil, and wife: one grandson, Robert Carl Duff; a sister, Mrs. Louise Sprecher, of Mt. Carroll, Ill.; a brother, Otto Brabant of Chicago, Ill., several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Her brother, Fred Brabant, and parents preceded her in death.
Final rites were held at the Presbyterian church in Volga on April 19, 1955, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Charles Carlston was in charge of the services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Charles Carlston accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Scott.
