Storm Lake Vidette - Albert Cyrus Buck was born in North Hero, Grand Isle county, Vt., June 18, 1826. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1848 traveling by water on canal and lakes to Chicago where teams were purchased and the rest of the journey was made in wagons.
On reaching the Mississippi river the boat was found to be on the west side and the young men of the company built a raft and crossed on it on Mr. Buck's 21st birthday.
A farm was purchased ten miles from McGregor in Clayton County, Iowa and this was Mr. Buck's home until he came to Storm Lake in 1892. He was married to Miss Sarah E. Peters who preceded him to the better land February 18, 1913.
Of the five sons and three daughters born to them, three sons are still living: Dr. Elmer Buck of Sioux Falls S.D., Arthur of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Leslie of Olivia, Minn.
Mr. Buck was converted in his youth and joined the M.E. church. He was a man of good mind and sterling integrity. His health has been feeble for years but he was uniformly patient and gentle.
He died Monday morning, March 20, at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Buck, whose devotion and care has been his chief earthly comfort since the death of his beloved wife. His end was peaceful. Like a shock of corn fully ripened he was gathered by the reaper of souls.
