Services for Frederick A. Welch, 83, widely known educator, lecturer and author, were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the White-Bumgardner-Mack funeral home in Des Moines. Burial was at Strawberry Point.
Mr. Welch died last Monday at the home of his son, Herbert, in Monrovia, Calif., where he spent his winters in recent years. He had been active in educational work most of his life and served as teacher and superintendent of schools in Iowa, including Volga.
He was graduated from Dixon, Ill., college and took graduate work at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Upper Iowa University at Fayette. For many years, he was editor of Midland Schools published from the office of the Iowa State Teachers association. He was author of "A Manuel for School Administrators," a book widely used by school superintendents.
He formerly instructed in summer school at Drake university and also taught extension courses for Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls.
He was a member of the Iowa Authors club, the National Writers club, the Iowa State Educational association and the Professional Men's club of Iowa.
His first wife, the former Prua Hoyt preceded him in death. Survivors include his son and a daughter, Laurine.
