VOLGA: The death of Charles Edward Puffett, 91, occurred Monday evening, Nov. 11, 1957, at his home in town, following a long illness due to old age frailties.
He was one of eleven children born to Frederick and Mary Newcomer Puffett on March 27, 1866, in Fayette county, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Cox Creek township southeast of Volga. In December, 1955, he and his wife moved to town.
On March 02, 1892, he was united in marriage to Matilda Gruman. She preceded him in death on Feb. 03, 1944.
On June 06, 1945, he was married to Mrs. Estella Crandall, who survives, also two sons, Merwyn, Route 03, Strawberry Point; Vern, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; seven step-children; two brothers, Ernie, Dundee, and Floyd of Manchester.
Mr. Puffett was a lover of horses and usually had a number of them on his farm. He was active in the life of his community and served for some time as township trustee.
Services were held Thursday from the Gill funeral home in Strawberry Point to the Methodist church at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. J. W. Bearce, pastor, officiated.
Casket bearers were: Wallace Oldfather, Stanley Everitt, Bruce Bowdish, Ernest Smith, Hugh Tenney and Luke Little.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery at Manchester.
