Funeral services for Ernest Joseph Thurn, 69, were held at the Rhines funeral chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 07, with the Rev. Clare Biegler of Elkport officiating. Burial was in the Union cemetery at Littleport. Music was furnished by Glen Fobes, who sang "In the Garden" and "Whispering Hope," accompanied by Miss Jennie Forward. The pallbearers were: Charles Tilp, Ray Hughes, Otto Berns, Fern Weyant, Alvin Stone and Walter Reimer.

Mr. Thurn died suddenly at his home Friday, October 04. He had been in poor health since February following a severe heart attack, which hospitalized him at that time. After a three-week stay in the hospital he returned home but remained in failing health.

Mr. Thurn was the son of Franz Thurn and Elizabeth Pauli Thurn. He was born September 17, 1888, and lived his entire life span on a farm near Edgewood, with the exception of two years with the infantry in World War I, and several years at Littleport.

Mr. Thurn took an active part in bettering his home community. For many years he was Lodomillo school director and trustee besides several other offices. He was also a member of the Edgewood Post of the American Legion.

On June 01, 1922, he was united in marriage to Alma Beyer, and to this union were born two children, Elizabeth of Cedar Rapids, and Francis of Edgewood, all of whom survive. He also is survived by two brothers, William and John of Edgewood. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Charles, and other brothers, Frank, Isaac, Joseph, James and Albert, two sisters, Anna and Mary.

Burial was in Union cemetery at Littleport. Edgewood American Legion Post No. 512 held graveside services.
