(extracted from the full text of the correspondence) ... Those who were too sick to be removed from Morganzia, Louisiana, were placed on board the steamer 'Diana' for transportation to some Post Hospital, and we buried two of our number who enlisted recently, side by side, at that place: Robert C. Mansfield, Co. I, of Clayton county; and Francis Washburn, Co. G, of Winneshiek county.

'Tis thus we mark our pathway, and we sympathise with the sorrowing ones at home.

~Dubuque Daily Times, Friday morning, September 23, 1864; pg 1 (Army Correspondence column, from the 21st Iowa Vols.)

Note: Although Francis is attributed to Winneshiek co. in the correspondence, he & his wife were living in Buena Vista twp. when he enlisted. See his military biography and his entry on the Civil War Honor Roll, in the Military section of the Clayton co. IAGenWeb
