Albert Walter Schmidt, the son of Fred Schmidt and his wife Dora nee Klein, was born Feb. 22, 1862, in Cox Creek township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at McGregor, July 19, at the age of ninety five years, four months and twenty-seven days.
Mr. Schmidt went west in his early manhood and returned to Elkader in the year 1901. He farmed for a number of years and also followed the trade of blacksmith.
He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Angela at Cripple Creek, Colo. His wife preceded him in death in the year 1922.
The deceased enjoyed good health most of his life and death was caused by the complications of old age. At one time Mr. Schmidt was a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed church.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Ella Waite of Fenton, Iowa; Carrie Heiden and Emma Cherne of Duluth, Minn., Albert Heiden of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Fred Heiden of Duluth, Minn., and Irene Snedidar of Los Angeles, Calif.
Services were held from Witt's funeral parlors Monday, July 22, at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the East Side cemetery with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
